i personally don't agree with it. i have a friend that has totally stocked up on baby things and she is not even pregnant. i think it is bad luck. i don't see anything wrong with buying books or something sentimental, but buying clothes and furniture is very weird to me! just my opinion!
I think it depends on what kinds of things you buy...in my case, I love to plan things and get excited about babies, but I wouldn't buy clothes or furniture (unless its something like a shelve or little table that I could re-use, no beds or closets). I'm making these little paintings and I will keep them until that day comes...
I don't think it's bad luck to buy baby stuff before there is a baby (but Jews aren't suppose to get anything until after the birth). I just think it's stupid to spend money on something you can't use. If you are concerned about the financial stresses of a child, open a savings account and start hoarding cash. ...waiting to have a baby when you're more financially stable might be a good idea. There is plenty of time for babies in the future. Enjoy privacy, travelling, and chocolate martinis while you still can!
baby supplies - it's no point because you will inevitably forget something, not use something, or need WAAAAAYYYYYY more of something else....
now baby BOOKS....stock up....some of the best ones may not be around when your turn comes...and if the off chance it never comes, there are tons of elementary schools needing books in kindergarten and pre-k.
I'd leave it. Bless you. I know it's tempting. I'm superstitious so I'd say it's a bad thing. Plus on a practical level when you do get pregnant you can wait and see if it's a boy or a girl and then get your friends to throw you a baby shower and you'll get loads of stuff anyway! My cousin got so many clothes her baby grew before she could even put him in them!
I voted other. Although it is wise financially, what happens if you can't get pregnant? It could be bad, because you could get all upset looking at all this baby stuff, not to mention all the money wasted. I say wait till after you are 3 months before you go wild in buying stuff. I say a toy here or there isn't so bad. I jsut wouldn't go to crazy, especially if it's your first possible baby.
I don't think it's bad luck at all! It's not like God is watching and saying, ooh... you bought a onesie, now I'm going to make you infertile. I bought a crib and changing table half way through my pregnancy. A week later I had a miscarriage. I beat myself up for months. I thought I caused myself to have the bad luck. Now I know how ridiculous that is.
